Sneak Peek!

The photographer, Katie Mosley (who we just love!) has been shooting Grant's pictures since his birth. She has sent us what she calls "Sneak Peeks" of Grant. Here are a few of Grant's 6 month pictures, I can't believe how fast he is growing! He changes everyday and the most recent discovery/update is his first TOOTH!!! Oh yes..... the drool, stuffy nose, restless nights, and constant gumming on anything and everything he can find!! He is also saying a few more words lately aside from Mama, he calls Matthew "BOB" which cracks us up!! We don't know where he got "BOB" from except maybe his stoller! He is also saying Bye, Bye and trying to wave backwards, it just melts our hearts!! He is not crawling yet but has taken position a few times on all fours so I don't think it will long before he takes off. We are staying really busy with lots of summer activities/trips so I wanted to post his pictures since I am a bit behind on several posts. Hope everyone is having a great summer so far!! Here they are!!

Make your own!!

Ok this post goes out to all the mommies that are interested or already making their own baby food and if you have already discovered this awesome, but thought I would share. Lately I have been trying to make some of Grant's food to keep it whole and unprocessed as possible and it has been working well so far economically and healthfully! I do have to say that we do like the Earth's Best or Naturally Preferred canned brands best when we do canned food and they work great too but the Dietitian in me tought it might be fun to try and make some baby food!! Soooo, I have been meaning to post this easy way to cut, cook, and make butternut squash. Have you ever tryed cutting a butternut squash?? Well it's a great way to cut your finger off since they are so big and so hard. What I did was simple but I wrapped the whole butternut squash in aluminum foil and baked at 400 degrees for 1 hr. The result was a very tender/soft butternut squash that was easy to slice and scoop out the stringy insides. From there I just continued to scoop out the cooked squash, mashed really well or you could put in a food processor to make it more pureed, add a little water if needed and if you have babyfood jars you saved or small meal size containers they are easy to pop in the freezer for later. I have also done this with sweet potatos and it works great too. Hope this helps anybody that is tackling baby food. Happy baby food making!!!

Who do you think Grant looks like???

Well, I'm back to the blogging thing. The finger is doing much better, stitches are out so it is just healing from here. Grant and I spent 2 whole weeks at my parents house and I really can not thank them enough for all the help I had with Grant. It was so nice just be home as well and spend some summer fun with my Mom and Dad even though I had a bum finger. We also celebrated my Mom's birthday while I was home which was so special. At the tail end of my 2week stay in Lexington Matthew picked Grant and I up and we headed to Chattanooga to see our dear friends who are also Matt and Jenny along with our close friends Brian and Jocee. We had so much fun, though short, spending time with them at there beautiful new home on Signal Mt. On Sunday before heading home we all ate brunch down on the river front and then headed to the Farmers Market. The market was a ton of fun and Grant enjoyed a little TN band that played while we strolled around on a lazy Sunday afternoon. So we are home now and settling back in from our 2 week trip. The time we spent with our family and friends was unforgettable. Here are a few pictures, enjoy!

Wine Tasting Blunder!

This picture was taken at about 4:30am once we got home!

I had to post our weekend quickly and I will apologize for any typos but this is being done one handed at the moment. On Friday night we hosted a Wine Tasting for Matthew"s firm so all week I was one busy girl getting prepared for the event. The party went great until........the cheese!!! Oh yes the cheese! What do you get when you have a large piece of cheese (with the red waxy stuff still on it) +a dinner knife = a visit to the ER! At about 11:30 we had two guests left and I was trying to fix them a plate of cheese to take home. I was using a regular ole dinner knife ( 1st mistake) to cut the large blocks of cheese. Just a little word to the wise, NEVER use a diiner knife to cut cheese! I was pressing down really hard t o cut through the waxy stuff and my hand did a little slip-a-roo....I knew instantly, said a choice word I will not repeat,( will spare you all of the pretty gory details, but my finger was still intact so that was good) and prepared for the ER. I yelled for Matthew, everyone came inside, we quickly scurried our guests out the door, grabbed Grant who was sleeping soundly, and off we went to the closest ER ( Centennial Hospital). Well, several shots, stitiches, and a HUGE bandage later we were discharged. The only funny part of this whole thing is that it is on my left hand middle finger so with the BIG white bandage it really looks like I am flipping everyone off! When we got home the birds were starting to chirp and our heads hit the pillow at about 5am. Sooo needless to say I will be on a blogging break for a bit. I can't really do a whole lot, I can't drive, clothe or change Grant"s diapers ect. Sooooo, I am headed to Lexington for the week so my Mom can help me. To all my fellow cheese slicers.....never use a dinner knife to cut cheese!
